When something strange happens in your life – a chance encounter with a person, circumstance or event that heads you in a different direction – you wonder, “What would my life have been like if that hadn’t happened?” This is when one looks for an association with the Vertex, a secondary angle of the chart that brings us “cosmic appointments” and run-ins that seem beyond our control. Learn what the Vertex is, how to interpret its position by sign, house and aspect, and its use in forecasting and synastry. [This is a specialty for Janet. She lectured on this topic at the United Astrology Conference (UAC) in 2002 and followed up with an article about the Vertex in the June/July 2003 issue of The Mountain Astrologer.]

They’re not real. There’s nothing there in the sky. However, these sensitive spots seem to be able to speak to us, sometimes with uncanny coincidences! There are dozens of them, some with ominous names like Part of Treachery, Catastrophe, Imprisonment, Fatality, Danger & Peril. We’ll check some famous and infamous examples and then look up our own Arabic Parts. Armed with formulae and a 0-360 degree conversion table, we’ll calculate some Arabic Parts that Solar Fire doesn’t. Bring your chart or birth data!
